Promoting Community Wildlife Management

This project was born to curb pressure on endangered wildlife species and improving the living conditions of forest-dwelling communities through conservation education and engaging hunters and bushmeat dealers in alternative enterprises other than hunting and trade in bush meat. We work with local populations in the Bakossi National Park area and the Southern Bakundu Forest Reserve in the South-west Region of Cameroon to address the plight of threatened wildlife species such as chimpanzee, drill, elephant and Prunus africana by raising awareness against unsustainable practices and disseminating knowledge of wildlife policies and regulations to local communities. We achieve this through capacity building, equipment and inputs support as well as organizing local people into Wildlife Management Groups (WMGs) and Conservation cooperatives as local structures to monitor and check illegal hunting activities at the community level.
